Safe Signal Bracelet.

Safe Signal is a smart safety bracelet that alerts deaf and hard-of-hearing people to danger through vibration and light, and sends an SOS signal in emergencies

The problem

Why Zots Stepan created the Safe Signal Bracelet.

I created Safe Signal because during wars, air raids, and natural disasters, many people do not receive danger warnings in time. This problem is especially serious for deaf and hard-of-hearing people: when sirens sound, they simply cannot hear the signal and may lose precious minutes needed to reach shelter. I also saw that in emergencies people often lose access to their phones.A phone can be left in another room, run out of battery, or be lost under rubble. Injured or trapped people are very difficult to locate, and every minute of delay puts their lives at greater risk. That is why I designed a device that is always on the wrist and never needs to be searched for. I wanted it to be affordable too: the estimated production cost is only about €12 to €20 per unit, with a final price of €30 to €45, so families in war zones could actually buy it. My goal was to turn safety into something you can feel, and this is exactly what my slogan says: “Safety You Can Feel.”

Every minute matters in an emergency. My dream is that Safe Signal helps people save those minutes

The invention

How the Safe Signal Bracelet works.

My bracelet is worn on the wrist at all times, so it is always easier to reach than a phone. When an air raid siren or emergency alert is triggered, the built-in vibration motors and bright LED alert lights immediately warn the user about danger. The person feels the vibration on their skin and sees the flashing light, even if they cannot hear the siren. This helps them reach shelter in time. If a person is injured or trapped under rubble, they can press the SOS button: the bracelet sends an emergency signal and shares the user’s geolocation with rescue services or family members, so rescuers can find them much faster. Inside, I use a CR2450 battery together with a low-power microcontroller, which greatly increases battery life. The body is made of a waterproof polycarbonate case with sealing protection and a soft silicone wrist strap, so the bracelet is lightweight, waterproof, durable, and comfortable enough for daily use. The user simply puts it on and forgets about it until it is needed.
