I decided to create Mushroom Hunter because I want to combine modern technology with nature and solve a problem faced by many mushroom pickers. Currently, mushroom hunting largely depends on experience, knowledge of the forest, and weather conditions. People often spend a lot of time searching and return home with empty baskets because they don't know where and when is best to pick mushrooms.
In my opinion, there is currently a lack of a single convenient application that would combine a map of mushroom spots, weather forecasts, information about previous finds, and artificial intelligence. Although there are separate services for identifying mushrooms and saving locations, Mushroom Hunter is meant to combine these features in one place.
I want the application to help mushroom pickers plan their trips better, save time, and share their experience. I believe this idea is promising, as it can be useful for people of different ages, and in the future it could expand beyond Ukraine to other countries as well.
How the Mushroom Hunter works.
Mushroom Hunter is a web application that helps mushroom pickers find promising spots for foraging, predict mushroom emergence, and plan trips.1. Interactive map of mushroom spots. Users can add found mushrooms to the map, view other pickers' spots, and filter them by species: porcini, chanterelles, slippery jacks, and more.2. Mushroom emergence forecast. The app analyzes weather, precipitation, temperature, forest type, and previous findings to determine where and when it's best to look for mushrooms.3. Automatic data saving. When a user adds a find, the app records GPS coordinates, date, weather, and other available data. The quantity and species of mushrooms can be entered manually.4. Personal mushroom picker's journal. Users can save photos, their own mushroom spots, trip results, and compare finds across different seasons.5. Location privacy. Users decide for themselves whether to share their mushroom spots. Personal points can be hidden, while public ones can be shown approximately to protect verified locations.6. Trip planning. The app suggests promising areas to search for mushrooms, helps plot routes, and saves maps for offline use.7. Mushroom pickers' community. Users can post their finds, share experience, leave reviews, and report whether mushrooms were found at a particular location.8. Search condition alerts. The app sends notifications when favorable conditions for finding certain mushroom species appear after rain and suitable weather.
