The problem

Why Аполлінарія Кара created the A Boundless Playground.

Today, playgrounds are an important part of the urban environment, as this is where children spend their free time, meet each other, learn to communicate, and explore the world through play. However, not all playgrounds take into account the diversity of children's needs. High curbs, narrow passages, inaccessible play equipment, and the absence of sensory elements or quiet zones can hinder children's full participation in shared play.It is important to understand that an inclusive playground is not only needed by children with disabilities. It should be comfortable for all children, regardless of their abilities and needs. Every child should be able not just to be present at the playground, but to play, interact with peers, and feel part of the community.Previously, I researched the inclusivity of urban space using the example of the Vynohradar neighborhood in Kyiv. This work helped me understand how much the accessibility of the environment affects people's daily lives. Later, I decided to develop this topic further and turn my attention to playgrounds. This is how the idea of "Playground Without Limits" was born - an inclusive space where accessibility, safety, development, and shared play are combined in one environment. I strive to create a place where children with different abilities can play together, explore the world, relax, and make friends. The main goal of my project is to show that true inclusivity lies in creating equal opportunities for every child, and that

The invention

How the A Boundless Playground works.

"Playground Without Limits" is a project for an inclusive children's space covering 1,120 m² (40 × 28 m), designed according to the principles of universal design. Its goal is to enable joint play, development and recreation for all children, regardless of their physical abilities and individual needs. The playground consists of five functional sectors:1. Creative-Artistic - interactive panels, musical elements and drawing boards that foster creativity and imagination.2. Active-Motor - an inclusive carousel, accessible swings and a play complex with slides for developing motor skills.3. Sensory - tactile paths, sand and interactive elements for exploring the world through different senses.4. Quiet Zone - shaded spots, benches and greenery for calm rest and recovery.5. Research-Mechanical - moving mechanisms and a water wheel for learning the basics of physics through play. All sectors are connected by accessible paths ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 m wide. The project includes ramps with a slope of up to 5%, safe surfacing, lighting and rest areas. The main feature is the combination of different types of activity in a single space, where children are not separated by ability but can play together, learn and make friends.
