My project is Cladomars Nova, a genetically modified fungus for terraforming Mars. It has four functions: it feeds on basalt and extracts nutrients from it, absorbs radiation as energy through radiosynthesis, produces oxygen like a plant through photosynthesis, and survives at -80°. Each property is taken from a real organism that already exists on Earth. Importantly, Cladomars Nova can also be tested on Earth — in laboratories, or even in Chernobyl, for example, which makes the project realistic even today.
